Villerius, Jacob Hendrik, aged 77, of Jenison, passed away peacefully, Saturday, July 17, 2010, at Trillium Woods Faith Hospice of Byron Center. Born June 14, 1933 in Rotterdam, Netherlands, Jake immigrated to the United States in 1955 in search of adventure and the American dream. In 1956 he joined the US Army and was stationed in Iceland. After completing his tour of duty, he returned to the Netherlands to marry Wilhelmina (Wilma) VanKessel. Together they returned to the United States to begin their life together. Jake worked as a carpenter and later taught carpentry at the Grand Rapids Job Corp-a job he thoroughly enjoyed. He took great pride in the life he made for his family in the US, including building his own home. He enjoyed traveling, playing billiards, Dutch parties and lifelong friendships.
He was preceded in death just five months ago by his wife of 51 years, Wilma. He is survived by two sons, Ron (Holly), Eric (Mary), six grandchildren, Erika and Jessica Villerius, Daniel (Brianna) Soblewski, Chase, Isaiah and Levi Villerius and two great grandchildren, Gavin and Griffin Soblewski, two brothers, Andre' (Wilma), Aad and sister, Gre' (Rinus) DeHeer and many friends and family in the Netherlands.
Visitation will be held at Seventh Reformed Church, 950 Leonard St., NW, Grand Rapids, MI, Tuesday, July 20, 6-8PM and Wednesday, July 21 from 10-11AM with the memorial service to follow at the Seventh Reformed Church. Cremation has taken place. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Hospice-Trillium Woods or the Alzheimer's Association.
The family would like thank the staff at Trillium Woods and Pastors Trumper and Fennema along with many friends for their faithfulness and support. The family also welcomes memories and messages in their guest book online @ www.cookfuneralservices.com.
